"Bantu Stephen Biko was a South African anti-apartheid activist. He was at the forefront of a grassroots anti-apartheid campaign known as the Black Consciousness Movement during the late 1960s and 1970s. His ideas were articulated in a series of articles published under the pseudonym Frank Talk. Raised in a poor Xhosa family, Biko grew up in Ginsberg township in the Eastern Cape. In 1966, he began studying medicine at the University of Natal, where he joined the National Union of South African Students. Strongly opposed to the apartheid system of racial segregation and white-minority rule in South Africa, Biko was frustrated that NUSAS and other anti-apartheid groups were dominated by white liberals, rather than by the blacks who were most affected by apartheid. He believed that well-intentioned white liberals failed to comprehend the black experience and often acted in a paternalistic manner.#fblifestyle

R.I.P. RON JONKER

The news of Ron Jonker's death is reaching us. We have lost a comrade.

He was a loyal supporter of Free West Papua. In the Netherlands, he did his best to do the same where West Papua could be promoted. Ron also came to support us a few times at our campaign tent at Malieveld in The Hague.

Prive, Ron has been battling cancer for 15 years. He had a rough time, but it never discouraged him. Even when he was very ill, he still thought of the Papua people.

He was feisty until the end.

Dear Ron, you have fought your fight, you are in a better place now.

Thank you very much for your love for West Papua, your support and solidarity over the years with the struggle of the Papuan people.

Thank you for your Fighting Spirit,

Oridek Ap: Oom Peter.- R.I.P. Peter Kafiar

We have lost an elder, Bpk Peter Kafiar.

He left all friends and family behind in West Papua to look for knowledge and a better future for his people. He has been living in the Netherlands since early '60s. He was a member of the National Liberation Council (NLC).

Since 2002 he was a supporter and adviser of the Free West Papua Campaign (NL).

He was a man of few words, but always willing to help when asked for his advise.

We will miss his physical presence, but know that he will join our Legion of Fallen Heroes. We will carry his name in our hearts and struggle on.

Dear Uncle Peter,

Thank you very much for your love and patience. I can still remember the day we arrived in the Netherlands (I was 9 years old), you and aunty Adri gave us shelter and a safe home in the Hague. You spoiled me and my siblings with hot cholate milk during the cold dutch winter. And was always very patient, you knew that Indonesia killed our father so you wanted to give us love and a safe home..

Few weeks ago, you already said goodbye, you cried and held my hand tightly. No words, I looked in your eyes and understood what you wanted to say. I said 'Het komt goed', don't worry everything is going to be alright, we will struggle on.

Your last firm handshake before I left for Melanesia. I knew you was already preparing for your journey.

RIP kaka Dai John Tekwie ~ Turut Berduka Cita atas berpulangnya Kaka Dai John Tekwie ke pangkuan Bapa di sorga

Tahun 1999, dua kali pertemuan saya secara pribadi dengan almarhum kk Dai John Tekwie seorang yang pernah menjabat sebagai Gubernur Sandown Province. Beliau juga adalah anak adat kampung Lido, Vanimo Propinsi Matahari terbenam Papua New Guinea.

Hari ini mendengar kepergian beliau untuk selamanya sejak kemarin dulu ke pangkuan Bapa disorga.

Kamipun turut berduka cita dan merasakan kehilangan salah satu sosok pemimpin terbaik Papua New Guinea. Aro sayang, walaupun kaka Dai pergi, secara pribadi kamipun akan mengenang semua peran beliau dalam perjuangan bangsa orang Papua Melanesia hari ini.

Dukungan besar almarhum kaka Dai John Tekwie bisa saya gambarkan sedikit disini.

Dua kali pertemuan dengan beliau saat itu tentu mengajarkan kami bahwa kaka Brother tuan John Tekwie adalah seorang anak adat yang punya hati besar mendukung Papua Barat Merdeka.

Pertemuan pertama di ruang pribadi kantor Gubernurnya di Vanimo (Pertemuan tertutup dengan almarhum John Tekwie). Pertemuan kedua di kampung Ambai alias kampung Lido sebutan masyarakat kampung Lido Vanimo karena dukungan beliau dan keluarga besar kampung Lido kepada kami saat mengatur beberapa kali pertemuan Nonviolent Training Workshop berlangsung di perbatasan Vanimo dan Port Numbay. Demikian pelayanan rohani lainnyapun beliau dan masyarakat kampung Lido memberikan dukungan yang besar senantiasa.

Tapi sayang belum berakhir perjuangan Papua Barat Merdeka hari ini. Almarhum kaka Dai John Tekwie pergi meninggalkan keluarga dan kita semua. Ada rasa suka cita tersendiri saat kita bersama waktu itu tahun 1999 di kota Vanimo. Kini kau pergi untuk selamanya meninggalkan pesan moral itu dibalik suasana duka. Pesanmu”Free West Papua adalah kerinduan kita semua”.

Another nabanga has fallen: Malvatumauri

The Malvatumauri Council of Chiefs’ peaceful protest over Matthew and Hunter that was initially planned to happen today has been postponed to Friday, April 5 because of the death of a former Prime Minister, late Donald Kalpokas Masike’ Vanua.

“On behalf of all chiefs and people of Vanuatu from the Torres through to Aneityum and Matthew and Hunter Islands, I wish to express our deepest condolences to the families of the late Kalpokas, and the people of Lelepa Island, North Efate, Efate, Shefa Province, the Vanuatu Government and the people of Vanuatu,” said Malvatumauri President, Chief Willie Grey Plasua. “We, the chiefs of Vanuatu bow humbly and mourn one of our great leaders and statesman who has left us.”

Chief Plasua described the late Kalpokas as one of Vanuatu’s ‘fallen nabanga’.

“The late Kalpokas Masike’Vanua was not only a politician, former Prime Minister and statesman, but he was also an elder in the church and a chief who highly respected Vanuatu’s customs values of and held his customary title of ‘Masike’ Vanua’ up to the time of his passing away,” the Malvatumauri President said.

“Today, the sounds of bubu and tamtam are heard in mourning for one of our great leaders and to farewell his departure from this world, but his legacy and footprints will always remain with us and in this nation.”

Chief Plasua said the chiefs’ peaceful protest will take place after the 10th day mourning period of the late former Prime Minister as the highest chiefly customary respect bestowed on a national leader.
